Friends Compass

Kiteboarding may be a solo sport on the water, but most riders go out with friends. Once you're riding, it's easy to lose track of where everyone is — until now.

Friends Compass shows the direction and distance to your friends directly on your Apple Watch while you ride. With one glance, you know exactly where to head to link up, ride together, or check in.

Apple Watch only - Friends Compass is currently available on Apple Watch. Wear OS support is coming later.

💎 Surfr PRO feature - Friends Compass is included with your PRO subscription.

🌐 Internet connection required - Your watch needs connectivity, either through eSIM or a paired iPhone nearby, to share and receive live positions.

How Friends Compass works

While you're recording a session, your watch shows a compass with arrows pointing to each of your friends on the water, along with the distance between you. As you and your friends move, the arrows update in real time.

A friend is anyone you follow on Surfr who follows you back. Friends only appear on your compass while they are also recording a session and riding nearby.

How to use Friends Compass

  1. Open the Surfr app on your Apple Watch.

  2. Go to Settings and make sure Friends Compass is enabled. It's on by default for PRO users.

  3. Start a session as usual.

  4. Swipe to the Compass view on your watch to see arrows and distances to every friend currently riding near you.

💡 Tip Combine Friends Compass with Live communication to send a quick voice message to the friend you're heading toward. If a friend raises a Friend Alarm, they're highlighted on your compass so you can reach them first.

Your privacy

While Friends Compass is on, your live direction and distance are shared with your mutual-follow friends who are also using Friends Compass, for as long as you're both recording a session.
