Surfr Widgets

Widget or Complication

Know the wind before you even open the app. With Surfr widgets you see live wind, the forecast for the week and which friends are on the water, right on your home screen, lock screen or watch.

šŸ†“ Free for everyone. Widgets work on every plan, and you can add as many spots to My Spots as you like. On the free plan, forecasts use the free ECMWF model.

šŸ‘€ Which widgets are there?

  • Wind widget - Live wind from the weather station at your spot (speed, gusts and direction), together with the forecast for the coming hours in one chart

  • Forecast widget - The forecast for the week ahead at your spot, so you can find the best day to ride

  • Friends widget - see which friends are on the water right now and where. On a quiet day, it shows the best friend sessions of today

  • Tide widget - High and low tide at your spot. Only available for iPhone on lock screen.

šŸ“ Your widgets for Your favourite Spots

Widgets show the spots you saved in My Spots. Add a spot by tapping the heart on a spot page. There is no limit to how many spots you can save.

  • By default, your widgets show your #1 spot in My Spots

  • Want a different spot on one widget? Press and hold the widget and pick another spot. You can choose from your My Spots, so add the spot there first

  • Manage and reorder your spots in Profile → Settings → My Spots

ā„¹ļø How to add the widget?

Adding a widget works the same way on every phone: press and hold an empty spot on your home screen, open the widgets menu and search for Surfr. Pick the widget and size you like, place it where you want, and choose your spot.

šŸ“± Can't find the Surfr widgets on your Xiaomi? On some Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones, the widget menu only shows Xiaomi's own widgets. The Surfr widgets are there, but the normal widget list is hidden. This is how to bring it back:

  1. Open Settings and go to Apps, then Manage apps

  2. Tap the three dots at the top right and choose Show all apps

  3. Search for App Vault and open it

  4. Tap Uninstall updates and confirm with OK

  5. Go back to your home screen, press and hold an empty spot and tap Widgets. You'll now see the normal list, with Surfr in it

šŸ’” Good to know

  • Widgets update on their own, also when the app is closed. Live wind refreshes about every 10 to 30 minutes, the week forecast every few hours. Your phone decides the exact moment

  • Low Power Mode or a battery saver can make widgets update less often

  • No internet? The widget keeps showing the last reading until it can update again

  • Widget empty or showing the wrong spot? Open the Surfr app once, so your spots sync to your widgets

  • Still not working? Update Surfr to the latest version and restart your phone or watch
