Kiteboarding is a solo sport. Yes, we go to the beach with our friends, but as soon as we hit the water, we lose all communication. Sharing the stoke is limited to some hand signals and some distant screams over the water. This made us wonder: Can we leverage watches to communicate with friends on the water?
Yes! It’s now possible to communicate with your friends on the water. Press the side buttons of your Apple Watch (or the action button on the Ultra) and speak your message into the microphone. This message will be converted to text and send to your friends that are around you.
🌐 Internet connection required – You'll need connectivity on you watch to be able to use the Live communication feature.
⌚ Currently Apple Watch only – Currently, the live communication feature is only available for the Apple Watch.
How to use Live communication?
Make sure that you're watch is connected to the internet.
From your watch, go to Settings and tap Chat features to activate it.
Change the settings to your preferred language and voice audio.
Once you’ve started your session in the Surfr. App, press and hold
the Action Button on the Apple Watch Ultra
the Crown + Side Button on other Apple Watch models
Wait for about three seconds and speak your message clearly into the microphone.
Give us a moment to process your voice and convert it into text.
💡 The best way to ensure internet on your watch is by activating an eSIM. In most countries, you can set this up easily through the iPhone Watch App under Mobile Service. Need help? Just reach out to your telecom provider for details.
If your watch doesn’t support eSIM or you just want to try this feature quickly, simply bring your iPhone to the water! Your watch will automatically connect to your phone’s internet.
