Recording issues on Garmin Instinct 3

Some users with the Garmin Instinct 3 may experience unexpected behavior while recording a session in Surfr since March 7 2026. Our team is aware of this issue and is actively investigating it.

What’s happening

During a session, you may notice one of the following:

  • Your watch reboots after 10–15 minutes

  • The Surfr app closes and restarts an active session

Why this happens

This behavior appears to be linked to a recent Garmin firmware update (May 7, 2026).

  • The update may affect how the watch’s motion sensors behave

  • Surfr relies on movement and activity data to track your session

  • In some cases, this may cause the watch’s sensor system to reset, which can interrupt the app

Current status

We looked into it and unfortunately, this issue if something that can't be fixed on our side. However, we received news that Garmin is currently testing a new beta firmware (14.06), and all users who have access to that version reported that the issue is resolved in that firmware version.

What you can do

We recommend Reporting the issue to Garmin Support and ask early access to version 14.06. Otherwise, it may be best to wait for the next official Garmin firmware release.

We’re very sorry that you can’t currently use the Surfr App as usual and really appreciate you reporting the issue and your patience while Garmin works on a fix.
